Role Purpose

The role is a key part of the FP&A Product Development and Support team, contributing to the ongoing stability, optimisation, and effective use of Anaplan as the Finance Planning & Analysis (FP&A) tool across the British Council. This position is primarily focused on data stewardship activities, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of Anaplan data, managing Anaplan master data hierarchies, and maintaining robust governance over security policies and compliance. Additionally, the role will oversee the Anaplan data quality processes, address enrichment requests, and drive continuous improvement to support reliable and efficient planning globally across the British Council’s Strategic Business Units.

Role Accountabilities

The role is responsible for overseeing the quality, governance, and security of Anaplan data. This includes monitoring and maintaining master data quality within Anaplan, liaising with data owners and source system teams (SAP, myHR, etc.), performing regular data quality checks to identify inconsistencies, duplicates, and errors, and developing data validation rules and standards. The role owns and maintains the Anaplan security model, ensuring compliance with data governance and security policies through regular reviews and updates of user roles and access rights. It also manages the creation and maintenance of Anaplan Master Data Mappings, validates mapping changes prior to deployment, and collaborates with Master Data Management (MDM) teams and designated Data Owners to resolve data quality issues and discrepancies. Additionally, the role maintains the integrity and accuracy of financial planning data, works closely with model builders to ensure data structures align with business requirements, and documents Anaplan data flows, mappings, and governance processes.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
