Anatomical Pathology Technicians (APT) - Mortuary Services

An exciting opportunity has arisen for two qualified and compassionate Anatomical Pathology Technicians (APT) to join our Mortuary Services team. This vital role supports the delivery of high-quality mortuary and post-mortem services, working closely with pathologists, coroners, funeral directors, police services, healthcare professionals, and bereaved families.

We are looking for an individual who combines excellent technical expertise with professionalism, sensitivity, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of care and dignity for the deceased and their relatives.

As An Anatomical Pathology Technician, You Will

  • Undertake routine and specialist mortuary duties and assist with post-mortem examinations, including high-risk cases and Virtopsys.
  • Prepare, receive, store, and release deceased patients in accordance with local policies and legal requirements.
  • Assist with body viewing arrangements and provide support to funeral directors and other service users.
  • Support compliance with Human Tissue Authority (HTA) regulations and standards.
  • Contribute to the maintenance and development of departmental SOPs, risk assessments, and quality standards.
  • Train and support junior colleagues and nursing staff in mortuary practices and Care After Death procedures.
  • Participate in the out-of-hours on-call rota.
