About The Role

We are seeking a talented and motivated Senior Developer to join our dynamic team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work within a world-class digital consultancy, focusing primarily on Android mobile development. As a Senior Developer at Waracle, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and deploying high-performance Android components and services that meet our clients’ needs. You will play a key role in end-to-end feature delivery, ensuring optimal app performance, accessibility, and responsiveness. This position encourages continuous learning and cross-functional collaboration, with a flexible hybrid working model that allows two days a week in our London office or on client sites. The ideal candidate will have a passion for mobile technology, a strong engineering foundation, and a curiosity to explore other frameworks such as React Native and Flutter.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess a robust technical background and relevant experience, including:

  • Exceptional proficiency in Kotlin and Java, with a deep understanding of the Android SDK, threading, offline storage, and performance optimization.
  • Hands-on experience building dynamic, responsive user interfaces using Jetpack Compose, aligned with Google's Android design principles.
  • Strong practical knowledge of software architecture principles, including SOLID, MVVM/MVI, and the use of Android Architecture Components and Jetpack libraries.
  • Experience leveraging open-source Android libraries for common tasks, benchmarking, and fine-tuning app performance.
  • Proven ability to write reliable UI tests and maintain clean software development lifecycles, with familiarity working within modern version control workflows such as Git.
  • Exposure to cross-platform frameworks like Flutter or React Native is desirable, demonstrating adaptability and a broad understanding of mobile ecosystems.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to stakeholders and present demos confidently.
  • A proactive approach to mentorship and team collaboration, with experience leading feature delivery and supporting junior colleagues.

Responsibilities

In this role, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and delivering end-to-end features and small subsystems for Android applications, ensuring high quality and performance standards.
  • Optimizing app performance, accessibility, and responsiveness to enhance user experience.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including designers, product managers, and other developers, to translate requirements into technical solutions.
  • Explaining complex technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders and demonstrating features confidently during client presentations.
  • Leading specific workstreams or features, providing guidance and mentorship to junior team members to foster skill development and best practices.
  • Participating actively in our culture and community of practice by mentoring others and representing Waracle in interviews and recruitment efforts.
  • Contributing to ad-hoc tasks and responsibilities as assigned by management, supporting continuous improvement and innovation within the team.
