Android Engineer
Location: Burgess Hill, UK
Work Mode: Hybrid – 3 days per week in office
Contract: 6 months initially, with potential extension or conversion to FTE
Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Android Engineer to work on mobile applications used by tens of millions of cardholders worldwide.
You will join a fast-paced Mobile Engineering team and work closely with designers, product owners, QA, and other engineers to develop and improve features for large-scale consumer mobile applications.
The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on Android development experience, excellent technical skills, creativity, and a passion for building high-quality, user-focused applications.

Key Responsibilities
- Build and enhance native Android applications
- Write clean, maintainable, and testable code
- Develop new features and improve existing functionality
- Refactor and maintain legacy code
- Identify and fix bugs and performance issues
- Work with asynchronous programming patterns
- Analyse and optimise application performance
- Develop unit and integration tests
- Work with CI/CD and modern development practices
- Integrate Android applications with backend services and REST APIs
- Collaborate with globally distributed engineering, product, design, and QA teams
- Design solutions for open-ended technical problems
- Contribute ideas and technical improvements to the product and engineering team

Required / Relevant Skills
- Strong commercial experience developing Android applications
- Strong Kotlin experience
- Experience with modern Android development
- Jetpack Compose
- Coroutines and Flow
- REST APIs
- Android architecture / MVI
- Unit and integration testing
- Performance analysis and optimisation
- Experience working with legacy code
- Git and CI/CD
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
