About The Role
We are seeking talented Android Developers to join our dynamic digital delivery team. In this role, you will contribute to the development, enhancement, and maintenance of high-quality Android applications that serve millions of users across the UK. Working within a multidisciplinary team comprising developers, designers, product managers, and technical specialists, you will play a key role in creating accessible, reliable, and user-centered mobile solutions that support public sector services. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on meaningful projects that have a tangible impact on society, particularly in the delivery of modern government digital services. You will be involved in technical decision-making, code reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring that best practices and high standards are maintained throughout the development lifecycle.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess demonstrable professional experience in Android development, with strong proficiency in Kotlin. You should have a good understanding of the Android SDK and the broader Android development ecosystem, along with experience working with APIs and integrating backend services. Familiarity with automated testing frameworks, version control systems such as Git, and modern Android architecture patterns is essential. Additional skills in Java, Jetpack Compose, Android Jetpack libraries, asynchronous programming with Kotlin Coroutines, and CI/CD pipelines are desirable. Candidates should also demonstrate a solid grasp of software engineering principles, including clean code, modularity, and maintainability. Experience working with cloud services and a good understanding of mobile security and accessibility standards will be advantageous.

Responsibilities
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality Android applications using Kotlin
- Translating user and business requirements into reliable technical solutions
- Writing clean, maintainable, and well-tested code
- Collaborating closely with designers, product managers, QA professionals, and fellow developers within an agile environment
- Participating in technical discussions, code reviews, and architectural decisions
- Developing automated tests and contributing to continuous integration and delivery processes
- Investigating and resolving technical issues, defects, and performance bottlenecks
- Ensuring that security, accessibility, privacy, resilience, and performance considerations are integrated throughout the development lifecycle
- Contributing to technical documentation
- Sharing knowledge within the team
- Helping establish and uphold development standards and best practices
- Keeping abreast of the latest advancements in Android and mobile technology ecosystems
- Fostering an inclusive, collaborative engineering culture through mentoring and knowledge sharing
