About The Role

We are seeking passionate and skilled Android Engineers to join our dynamic team at Engine by Starling. As an Android Engineer, you will play a crucial role in enhancing our award-winning Android application, developing new features, and building innovative products from scratch. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and other engineers, to deliver high-quality, scalable, and secure banking solutions. Your contributions will directly impact our customers worldwide, helping us to continue changing banking for good.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects, including building SDKs for international clients, supporting the development of new banking apps, and migrating legacy systems to modern technologies. You will be empowered to make technical decisions, own your projects, and collaborate with team members of varying experience levels. Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Android development, with experience in designing, building, and maintaining mobile applications. You should be proficient in Kotlin and familiar with modern Android development practices, including Jetpack Compose, Retrofit, Dagger, Realm, and Coroutines. Experience with UI/UX design, accessibility, and internationalization is highly desirable. A solid understanding of security principles, testing methodologies (unit, UI, and integration testing), and CI/CD pipelines is essential.

We value individuals who are self-driven, proactive, and eager to learn. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a collaborative team are crucial. Experience working on SDKs, contributing to open-source projects, or maintaining libraries will be a plus. Candidates should also have a good grasp of working with legacy codebases and migrating to newer technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of our award-winning Android app and internal tooling systems.
  • Design, develop, and implement new features and products from scratch, ensuring configurability and scalability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define technical requirements and deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and secure code, adhering to best practices and industry standards.
  • Participate in code reviews, testing, and debugging to ensure stability and performance of applications.
  • Support the migration from legacy systems to modern frameworks and libraries, including moving from XML layouts to Compose and RxJava2 to Coroutines.
  • Share knowledge and expertise with team members, fostering a culture of learning and continuous improvement.
  • Engage in regular planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives to align on project goals and progress.
  • Contribute to building SDKs and supporting internationalization efforts for global deployment.
