About The Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Android Engineer to join our Search and Recommendations Experience team. This role is pivotal in shaping the future of our mobile search and discovery capabilities across multiple lines of business, including lodging, flights, cars, activities, and packages. As a technical leader, you will architect and deliver scalable, high-performance Android solutions that enhance user engagement and operational efficiency. You will influence architectural decisions, set coding standards, and develop innovative AI-enabled features that improve the overall traveler experience. Collaborating closely with product managers, designers, and engineering teams, you will drive technical strategy and ensure the delivery of seamless, personalized, and secure mobile experiences. Your expertise will help define the direction of Expedia Group’s mobile platform and contribute to our mission of making travel planning effortless and enjoyable for millions of users worldwide.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field; or equivalent professional experience
  • 12+ years of relevant experience in Android mobile application development
  • Proven expertise in designing and delivering complex, scalable Android applications and APIs
  • Extensive experience leading architecture and technical strategy for multi-service and cross-domain initiatives
  • Strong understanding of AI/ML concepts and their application within mobile products
  • Excellent leadership skills with a track record of mentoring engineering teams
  • Experience working within large, dispersed development teams and managing cross-functional collaboration

Responsibilities

  • Architect, design, and implement advanced Android mobile solutions that are scalable, performant, and maintainable across Expedia Group’s platforms
  • Lead technical direction for multi-service initiatives, influencing architectural decisions and setting coding standards
  • Develop system designs, low-level designs (LLD), APIs, and data models that support seamless integration with internal and external services
  • Mentor and guide mobile engineering teams, fostering technical excellence, best practices, and knowledge sharing
  • Safely integrate and operate AI/ML-enabled solutions to enhance user experiences and business outcomes
  • Collaborate with product, design, and engineering stakeholders to deliver innovative features and drive technical strategy
  • Ensure the mobile platform adheres to security, performance, and quality standards
