About The Role

We are seeking a talented Android Engineer to join our innovative engineering team at Starling Bank. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing and enhancing our mobile banking application, ensuring it remains resilient, secure, and user-centric. You will work within cross-functional teams, collaborating closely with designers, product managers, and other engineers to deliver high-quality features on a rapid release cycle. Your contributions will directly impact millions of customers, helping them to manage their money more effectively through a seamless and accessible mobile experience. The successful candidate will possess a strong background in Android development, with proficiency in Kotlin and experience working with modern Android frameworks and tools. A solid understanding of MVVM architecture, Jetpack Compose, Material Design, and asynchronous programming using Kotlin Coroutines and Flow is essential. Experience with dependency injection frameworks such as Hilt, and familiarity with persistence solutions like Realm or Room, will be highly advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to security best practices, accessibility, and high-quality testing using tools like Espresso and JUnit. Excellent problem-solving skills, the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, and a self-driven attitude are key qualities for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain robust Android applications that deliver a seamless user experience.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and implement new features and improvements.
  • Ensure the security, accessibility, and performance of the mobile app across various devices and Android versions.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code adhering to best practices and coding standards.
  • Implement comprehensive testing strategies, including UI, unit, and integration tests, to ensure high-quality releases.
  • Participate in code reviews, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement initiatives within the team.
  • Contribute to the migration and modernization of legacy codebases, adopting new technologies and frameworks.
  • Monitor app performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions to optimize user experience.
  • Stay updated with industry trends and emerging technologies to bring innovative ideas to the team.
