About The Role
We are seeking passionate and talented Android Engineers to join our expanding team at Engine by Starling. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development and enhancement of our award-winning Android application and internal tooling. As an Android Engineer, you will be instrumental in building new features and products from scratch, ensuring they are configurable, scalable, and maintainable. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and other engineers, to deliver high-quality, resilient, and user-centric solutions. Your responsibilities will include owning your projects from conception to deployment, sharing knowledge with colleagues, and continuously seeking improvements to our codebase and processes. This position provides a platform to work on innovative projects, such as SDK development for international clients and migration from legacy libraries, all within a collaborative and supportive environment.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Android development with a focus on delivering high-quality, maintainable code. You should possess experience working with modern Android frameworks and libraries such as Dagger, Realm, Retrofit, Coil, Compose, Coroutines, and others. A good understanding of security best practices in mobile development, accessibility standards, and internationalization is essential. Experience with testing frameworks like Espresso and JUnit, along with manual testing, is highly desirable. You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, taking ownership of your work, and collaborating effectively with diverse teams. Prior experience in SDK development, OSS contributions, or working with international markets will be considered a plus. A passion for learning new technologies and a commitment to continuous improvement are key attributes for success in this role.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the development and enhancement of our Android application, ensuring features are robust, accessible, and aligned with user needs.
- Build new features and products from scratch, utilizing configurable and scalable architectures.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and deploy high-quality code.
- Share knowledge and best practices with team members to foster a learning culture.
- Own your projects end-to-end, from initial conception through testing and deployment.
- Implement security best practices across all layers of the application, maintaining a focus on data protection and user privacy.
- Write comprehensive unit and UI tests using JUnit and Espresso to ensure code stability and reliability.
- Participate in code reviews, continuous integration, and deployment processes to maintain high standards of code quality.
- Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies, recommending improvements and innovations.
- Contribute to SDK development and migration projects, supporting international expansion efforts.
