About The Role

We are seeking a talented Android Engineer to join our dynamic team at Engine by Starling, a dedicated SaaS business powering banking technology solutions globally. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing and enhancing our award-winning Android application and internal tooling. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to build scalable, secure, and high-quality features that directly impact our customers' banking experience. As part of a fast-paced environment, you will own your projects from conception to deployment, sharing knowledge and best practices with colleagues to foster a culture of continuous improvement. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to international SDK development, support migration efforts, and help shape the future of digital banking technology.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in Android development with a focus on delivering resilient and maintainable code. You should have experience with modern Android frameworks and libraries, such as Dagger, Realm, Retrofit, Coil, Compose, and Coroutines. A good understanding of security best practices, accessibility standards, and internationalization is essential. Experience with testing frameworks like Espresso and JUnit, along with familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, will be advantageous. You should be a self-driven individual capable of taking full ownership of your work, with excellent problem-solving skills and a collaborative mindset. A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field is preferred, but relevant experience and a passion for fintech innovation are equally valued.

Responsibilities

As an Android Engineer at Engine by Starling, your responsibilities will include:

  • Contributing to the development and maintenance of our award-winning Android application and internal tools.
  • Designing, building, and implementing new features from scratch, ensuring they are configurable and scalable.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, secure, and accessible banking features.
  • Writing clean, maintainable, and well-tested code using industry-standard practices and frameworks.
  • Participating in code reviews, providing constructive feedback, and continuously improving code quality.
  • Engaging in knowledge sharing sessions and mentoring junior team members to foster a learning culture.
  • Supporting migration efforts from legacy libraries and frameworks, including XML layouts and RxJava2.
  • Ensuring the app adheres to security standards, accessibility guidelines, and internationalization requirements.
  • Contributing to SDK development for international markets, supporting the deployment of banking solutions across different regions.
  • Actively participating in team meetings, planning sessions, and industry events to stay updated with emerging technologies and trends.
