About The Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Android Engineer to join our Search and Recommendations Experience team. This pivotal role involves leading the design, development, and implementation of advanced Android solutions that support Expedia Group’s diverse travel platforms. You will be responsible for setting architectural direction, influencing engineering standards, and driving the evolution of AI-enabled capabilities across our mobile ecosystem. As a technical leader, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams—including product managers, designers, and engineers—to deliver innovative features that enhance user experience and business outcomes. Your expertise will help shape scalable, high-performance Android applications that deliver seamless search and discovery experiences for travelers across multiple lines of business such as lodging, flights, cars, activities, and packages. Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
- 12+ years of relevant experience in Android mobile application development and architecture.
- Proven expertise in designing and delivering complex, large-scale Android applications, including system and API design.
- Extensive experience leading multi-service and cross-domain technical initiatives.
- Familiarity with AI-driven systems, machine learning workflows, and their integration into mobile products.
- Strong understanding of modern Android development practices and patterns.
- Excellent leadership, mentorship, and communication skills to guide engineering teams and collaborate effectively across departments.
Responsibilities
- Architect, design, and deliver scalable, high-performance Android mobile solutions aligned with business goals and user needs.
- Lead technical direction for multi-service and cross-functional projects, influencing architectural decisions and coding standards.
- Develop detailed system designs, low-level designs (LLD), APIs, and data models to ensure seamless integration with internal and external services.
- Mentor and guide mobile engineers, fostering technical excellence, best practices, and knowledge sharing across teams.
- Integrate AI/ML-enabled features to enhance user experience, personalization, and business outcomes.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and stakeholders to define technical strategies and deliver innovative mobile features.
- Ensure code quality, performance optimization, and adherence to security standards throughout the development lifecycle.
- Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry trends to continuously improve mobile platform capabilities.
