About The Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Android Engineer to join our Search and Recommendations Experience team. In this strategic role, you will lead the design, development, and delivery of advanced Android mobile solutions that enhance the end-to-end search and discovery experiences across multiple travel domains, including lodging, flights, cars, activities, and packages. You will provide technical leadership by setting architectural standards, influencing engineering practices, and driving innovation in AI-enabled capabilities within our mobile platform. Your expertise will be instrumental in shaping the future of our mobile products, ensuring they are scalable, high-performing, and aligned with our organizational goals. Collaborating closely with product managers, designers, and engineering teams globally, you will foster a culture of technical excellence, mentorship, and continuous improvement, ultimately delivering features that delight travelers and improve business outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 12+ years of relevant experience in Android development and mobile architecture.
  • Proven expertise in designing and delivering complex, scalable Android applications, including system and API design.
  • Extensive experience leading architectural decisions and technical strategies for multi-service and cross-domain initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of AI/ML concepts and their application in mobile products.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Experience mentoring and guiding engineering teams to maintain high standards of code quality and best practices.
  • Familiarity with modern Android development tools and frameworks, including Kotlin, Jetpack components, and performance optimization techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, design, and implement advanced Android mobile solutions that ensure scalability, performance, and maintainability across Expedia Group’s platforms.
  • Lead the technical direction for multi-service, cross-domain initiatives, influencing architectural decisions and coding standards.
  • Develop system designs, low-level designs (LLD), APIs, and data models that support seamless integration with internal and external services.
  • Mentor and coach mobile engineers, promoting technical excellence, code quality, and knowledge sharing across teams.
  • Integrate AI/ML-enabled features safely and effectively to enhance user experience and drive business results.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineering teams to deliver innovative mobile features aligned with organizational strategy.
  • Establish best practices for mobile development, operational excellence, and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends and emerging technologies to incorporate innovative solutions into our mobile products.
