About The Role
We are seeking a talented Android Engineer to join our dynamic mobile development team at Starling Bank. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the ongoing evolution of our flagship banking application, ensuring it remains at the forefront of technology and user experience. As an Android Engineer, you will work within cross-functional teams, collaborating closely with designers, product managers, QA, and other engineers to develop, test, and deploy high-quality features for our Android platform. You will be empowered to make technical decisions, influence product direction, and implement innovative solutions that enhance our customers' banking experience. The role requires a proactive, self-driven individual capable of owning end-to-end delivery, from coding and testing to deployment and maintenance. You will also participate in code reviews, contribute to best practices, and help shape the future of our Android app, ensuring it remains accessible, secure, and performant across diverse devices and user needs.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in Android development with a passion for creating intuitive and accessible mobile applications. Proficiency in Kotlin is essential, along with experience in MVVM architecture, Jetpack Compose, and Material Design principles. Familiarity with modern development tools such as Android Studio, Espresso, JUnit, and CI/CD pipelines is required. A solid understanding of security best practices, accessibility standards, and performance optimization is crucial. Experience working with RESTful APIs, dependency injection frameworks like Hilt, and persistence solutions such as Realm or Room will be advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills, a collaborative mindset, and a commitment to writing clean, maintainable, and testable code. Prior exposure to Agile methodologies and a keen interest in fintech or banking technology will be highly regarded.
Responsibilities
- Designing, developing, and maintaining features within the Starling Android application, ensuring they meet high standards for quality, security, and usability.
- Working closely with product teams to understand user needs and translate them into technical solutions, adhering to accessibility and security guidelines.
- Writing comprehensive unit and UI tests using JUnit and Espresso to guarantee application stability.
- Participating in code reviews, contributing to architectural decisions, and helping optimize app performance.
- Collaborating with QA engineers and participating in manual testing processes to deliver bug-free releases.
- Being involved in automating release processes, monitoring app performance, and implementing improvements based on user feedback.
- Maintaining the app’s consistency across updates, ensuring a seamless experience for our customers.
