About The Role

We are seeking talented Android Engineers at all levels to join our vibrant team. As part of Engine by Starling, you will play a crucial role in enhancing and expanding our award-winning Android applications and internal tooling. Your contributions will directly influence the development of new features and products, helping us build scalable and configurable solutions from scratch. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you will own your projects, sharing knowledge and best practices to foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement. This role offers the opportunity to work on innovative banking solutions, including SDK development for international markets, supporting our mission to change banking for good. You will be empowered to make decisions, contribute to technical discussions, and help shape the future of our Android platform within a collaborative and fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Android development, with experience in designing, building, and maintaining high-quality applications. Proficiency in Kotlin and Java is essential, alongside familiarity with modern Android frameworks such as Compose, Retrofit, Realm, and Dagger. Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing (JUnit, Espresso), and manual testing processes is highly valued. Knowledge of accessibility standards and security best practices in mobile development is required, given our focus on delivering secure and user-friendly banking apps. Experience with internationalization, SDK development, and working with legacy codebases will be advantageous. We seek self-driven individuals who are curious, proactive, and committed to ownership and excellence in their work. A collaborative mindset and the ability to communicate effectively across teams are also important.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of our Android banking app and internal tools, ensuring a seamless user experience.
  • Design, build, and deploy new features and products from concept to production, maintaining high standards of code quality and performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including designers, QA, and backend engineers, to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Share knowledge and best practices with team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Own your projects from start to finish, including planning, implementation, testing, and deployment.
  • Implement security, accessibility, and performance optimizations across all layers of the application.
  • Write automated UI and unit tests to ensure application stability and reliability.
  • Participate in code reviews, contribute to technical discussions, and help migrate legacy code to modern frameworks.
  • Stay updated with industry trends and emerging technologies to continuously improve our Android platform.
