About The Role

We are seeking passionate and talented Android Engineers to join our growing team at Engine by Starling. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development and enhancement of our award-winning Android applications and internal tooling. As an Android Engineer, you will be instrumental in building new features and products from scratch, ensuring they are configurable, scalable, and maintainable. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality code, share your expertise, and drive continuous improvement. Your responsibilities will include owning your projects, collaborating in small teams, and actively participating in the full software development lifecycle, from design and implementation to testing and deployment. This role is ideal for individuals who are curious, proactive, and eager to make a meaningful impact on banking technology. You will be empowered to make decisions and provide insights that influence project outcomes, working in an environment that values innovation, ownership, and excellence.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Android development, with experience in designing, building, and maintaining high-quality mobile applications. Proficiency in Kotlin and Java is essential, along with a good understanding of modern Android development practices, including Compose, Retrofit, Dagger, Realm, and Coroutines. Experience with UI/UX design principles and accessibility standards is highly desirable. Familiarity with testing frameworks such as Espresso and JUnit, as well as manual testing processes, is important to ensure the delivery of resilient and stable features. Knowledge of security best practices in mobile app development, particularly in a banking or financial context, is crucial. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to work independently, take ownership of their work, and thrive in a collaborative environment. Experience with internationalization, SDK development, or contributing to open-source projects is a plus. A passion for learning new technologies and a commitment to writing clean, maintainable, and well-tested code are essential qualities for success in this role.

Responsibilities

As an Android Engineer at Engine by Starling, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Contributing to the development of our Android applications and internal tools.
  • Building new features and products from scratch, ensuring they are configurable and meet high standards of quality and security.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and ship features that deliver value to our users.
  • Sharing knowledge with colleagues and supporting a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Owning your projects from inception to deployment, including writing, reviewing, and maintaining code.
  • Ensuring the stability, resilience, and performance of the apps through rigorous testing, including UI/E2E and unit testing.
  • Working closely with QA engineers to facilitate comprehensive testing processes.
  • Staying current with the latest industry trends and technologies, actively participating in team discussions, code reviews, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
  • Contributing to SDK development, supporting internationalization efforts, and helping migrate from legacy libraries.
