Role Description
The Animal Care Technician is a part-time, on-site role based in Solihull, West Midlands. The role involves providing daily care for a range of animals, including feeding, watering, cleaning enclosures, monitoring health and behaviour, and ensuring high welfare standards at all times.

The technician supports teaching and learning activities by preparing animal areas for classes, assisting staff and students with practical tasks, and maintaining accurate records of animal care and health. Routine responsibilities include checking equipment, stocking supplies, following health and safety and biosecurity procedures, and reporting any concerns promptly.

The role may also involve travel to local vet practices, assisting with handling and restraint, and contributing to the upkeep and cleanliness of all animal facilities.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess strong skills in animal care and pet care, with a clear understanding of welfare, nutrition, handling, and behaviour.
- Candidates should possess experience in animal health and animal work, including monitoring for signs of illness and supporting routine health checks.
- Candidates should possess relevant skills to assist with basic tests, sample handling, and safe use of equipment, and medication administration.
- Relevant qualifications in animal care or related subjects (e.g., Level 3 Animal Care, Veterinary Care Assistant, or similar) are mandatory.
- Ability to follow detailed procedures, maintain accurate records, and adhere to health and safety and safeguarding requirements.
- Good communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to support students and staff in a busy educational environment.
- Previous experience working with a wide range of species in animal education settings or other collections is an advantage.
