Anticipated Health Room Assistant (LPN) position available for the 2026-2027 school year at the High School

Hours: 7:00am - 2:30pm

TITLE: Health Room Assistant

CATEGORY: II-Assistants

REPORTS TO: Building Principal and School Nurse

JOB SUMMARY:

The primary goal of the Health Assistant is to care for student health injuries and/or illnesses in an expedient and safe manner. The Health Assistant works with parents, students, and school medical personnel for the control and prevention of disease and for the development of optimum health of each student.

Qualifications

  • Possesses High School Diploma or Equivalency
  • Possesses current Pennsylvania LPN or RN Licensure
  • Assures compliance with Employment Eligibility, Criminal History Record, Pre-Employment Drug Testing, and Physical Examination/TB Test Standard
  • Demonstrates ability to meet "Highly Qualified" status under the No Child Left Behind legislation
  • Associates Degree (or)
  • Forty-eight post-secondary credits (or)
  • Successful completion of District approved assessment
  • Experience working in a medical office or other health-related setting
  • Assures and maintains compliance with all Pennsylvania certification requirements
  • Possesses ability to maintain high level of confidentiality
  • Possesses proficiency in the English language, with ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Possesses ability to deal courteously and tactfully with students, staff, and the public
  • Demonstrates knowledge of technology, including the use of software and computerized office equipment
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative and effective working relationships with others

Primary Job Functions

The position holder must be able to perform the essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation. It is the responsibility of the employee to inform the District of any and all reasonable accommodations that will be required.

  • Monitors, observes and reports student health according to approved District policies and procedures
  • Maintains functions of front office/reception area by documenting all health room visits, including chief complaint, treatment, and outcome for each student
  • Administers first aid in accordance with established procedures
  • Provides specialized care (including medications)
  • Assists in control of communicable diseases according to procedures
  • Maintains confidential student records and files
  • Maintains accurate records of medications brought to the Health Office and records each administration of medication in the students file
  • Inputs student information pertaining to health room visits into student information system
  • Performs recordkeeping of health-related issues
  • Observes district health and safety regulations
  • Communicates with school personnel to exchange information and resolve issues or concerns
  • Maintains annual compliance with Chapter 14 requirements
  • Maintains regular and timely attendance

Secondary Job Functions

  • Administers medications and treatments, as necessary
  • Assists with Toileting, if necessary
  • May visit Non-Public schools in the District, per schedule assigned by the Health Services Department Coordinator or designee
  • May perform mandatory state screenings and reports for non-public school children
  • Attends meetings and trainings as assigned
  • Performs related duties as assigned

Six to six and three-quarter (6-6.75) hours per day 182 days per year; Hourly Rate of Pay and Benefits per the ESPA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
