AOV Small Works Engineer – Remedials & Installations
Field Based: London | Competitive Salary + Company Vehicle + Benefits

Firetecnics is one of London’s most established LPCB-certified fire safety businesses, with more than 35 years’ experience supporting residential and commercial property customers.
As part of the Helix International Group, we combine specialist fire-safety expertise with the capability and backing of a wider risk, compliance and technology group.
As we continue to strengthen our in-house technical capability, we are looking for an AOV Small Works Engineer to join our growing Operations team.
The Opportunity
This is a hands-on field role focused on the remedial, upgrade and installation of AOV and smoke-control systems across London and the South East.
You will work on a varied customer portfolio, delivering planned small works while developing your technical capability.
We are looking for someone who takes pride in quality workmanship, can work independently on customer sites and wants the opportunity to broaden their expertise within smoke control and wider life safety systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete AOV and smoke control remedial, upgrade and small installation works.
- Install and replace actuators, control panels, power supplies, detectors, interfaces, switches and associated equipment.
- Carry out electrical alterations, cabling, containment and terminations.
- Assist with fault-finding and diagnosis, escalating complex technical issues where appropriate.
- Complete repairs and upgrades identified through servicing, surveys and investigations.
- Support functional testing and commissioning following completed works.
- Identify additional defects or remedial requirements while on site and report them accurately.
- Maintain clear records of labour, materials and completed works.
- Deliver work safely and professionally across occupied residential and commercial environments.
- Undertake manufacturer and specialist training to broaden AOV and smoke-control capability.

What we are looking for
You should have:
- Practical experience across AOV, smoke ventilation, electrical Small Works or installation.
- Strong electrical installation and practical fault finding skills.
- Experience installing, replacing or repairing AOV/smoke-control components.
- Confidence working independently on planned remedial and installation works.
- Relevant electrical qualifications or demonstrable technical competence.
- Good customer communication and accurate reporting skills.
- A strong approach to Health & Safety and quality.
- Full UK driving licence.

Experience working with fire alarm systems and associated interfaces, including an understanding of how fire alarm cause and effect interacts with AOV and smoke-control systems, would be advantageous.
