Application Architect – Workplace / End User Computing
Location: Manchester preferred / Inverness
Working: Hybrid – 3 days onsite / 2 days remote
Contract: 6 months
Rate: £535.50/day candidate rate
Engagement: PAYE through Umbrella
Security: Must be eligible for BPSS clearance
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Application Architect to support complex enterprise applications within a Workplace / End User Services environment. This is not a traditional software development architect role. You will be responsible for understanding and managing the end-to-end application architecture and its dependencies across Windows, Azure, infrastructure, integrations, identity, security and operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the technical point of contact for complex workplace applications.
- Own and maintain end-to-end application architecture and technical documentation.
- Manage application integrations, interfaces and dependencies.
- Work across Windows, Azure, SaaS, compute, storage, networking and databases.
- Coordinate with Cloud, Infrastructure, Network, Security, Identity and Application teams.
- Support security compliance, patching and upgrade strategies.
- Lead/support incident, problem management and Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
- Manage application roadmaps in line with customer requirements.
- Provide technical guidance to customer and internal stakeholders.

Key Skills & Experience
Essential:
- 10+ years of enterprise IT experience with strong architecture background.
- Extensive Windows Enterprise / Workplace / EUC experience.
- Strong understanding of Azure – landing zones, compute, storage, networking and application services.
- Experience with complex enterprise application architecture and integrations.
- Strong knowledge of Entra ID, SSO, SCIM, RBAC and certificates.
- Understanding of APIs, REST/SOAP, messaging and application dependencies.
- Strong infrastructure knowledge across compute, storage, networking and databases.
- Experience with ITIL, incident/problem management, RCA, patching and upgrades.
- Excellent customer and stakeholder management skills.

Please note: This role requires strong cross-functional technical knowledge. Candidates with only a pure Java/.NET development, Azure development, Windows administration or traditional software architecture background are unlikely to be suitable.
