Application Packaging Engineer
Reference: BH-403c
Working Hours: Full time
Job Type: Contract (Inside IR35)
Contract Length: 12 months
Day rate: £400 per day
Location: Manchester or Blackpool – Hybrid (3 days per week onsite)
About The Role:
Our client is looking for an experienced Application Packaging Engineer to support the delivery and management of applications across a large-scale Windows endpoint environment. This is a hands-on engineering role covering application packaging, scripting, deployment, testing, and troubleshooting. You will work extensively with Microsoft Intune and Configuration Manager, helping prepare both existing and new applications for reliable deployment across modern workplace environments. Strong practical experience is essential, with technical capability expected to form part of the interview process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build, maintain, and update application packages for enterprise Windows environments.
- Repackage existing applications for deployment across modern endpoint platforms.
- Develop deployment solutions using MSI, App-V, PowerShell, and PSADT.
- Deploy and validate applications through Intune, Configuration Manager, and Citrix environments.
- Investigate failed installations, software conflicts, and application compatibility issues.
- Troubleshoot endpoint restrictions involving security policies, application controls, and Windows Defender.
- Produce clear technical documentation covering application discovery, packaging, and deployment.
- Test and peer review application packages to maintain quality and consistency.
- Support the migration of applications onto modern Windows and cloud-managed environments.

Essential Experience & Technical Skills:
- Strong commercial experience in enterprise application packaging and deployment.
- Hands-on experience with MSI, App-V, and PSADT.
- Advanced PowerShell scripting skills.
- Strong experience with Microsoft Intune and MECM/SCCM, including deployment and troubleshooting.
- Detailed knowledge of Windows 11, including registry, services, file systems, policies, logs, and user/system execution contexts.
- Experience diagnosing application and deployment issues using Sysinternals or similar tooling.
- Understanding of endpoint security controls, including AppLocker and Windows Defender ASR.
- Experience testing, troubleshooting, and documenting application packages within enterprise environments.

Desirable Experience:
- Experience with Windows Autopilot and endpoint security technologies.
- Knowledge of Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, and Group Policy.
- Exposure to Citrix and Ivanti/AppSense environments.
- Experience with MSIX application packaging.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Graph for endpoint or application management.
- Experience supporting application migration to Intune or Windows 365.
- Familiarity with Intune application import/export or management utilities.
