About The Role

The Applications Engineer position at Echelon Engineers is a pivotal role that sits at the core of the sales and design process. This design-led role involves transforming customer enquiries into detailed 3D plant layouts and engineering solutions that effectively meet client needs and contribute to winning new business. Reporting directly to the Technical Director, the successful candidate will leverage their proficiency in SolidWorks and CAD tools to produce accurate, visually compelling plant layouts and general arrangements. Over time, the Applications Engineer will develop independence in managing incoming enquiries, progressing technical and drawing work autonomously, and serving as a vital link between sales, engineering, and project teams. This role offers an exciting opportunity for individuals passionate about visualizing complex equipment, with the potential to influence business growth through innovative design and technical excellence.

Qualifications

  • Strong proficiency in SolidWorks, with demonstrated experience in 2D and 3D CAD design.
  • Background in capital equipment, process plant, materials handling, or related industrial manufacturing sectors is essential.
  • Ability to interpret customer enquiries accurately and develop layout solutions with minimal supervision.
  • Keen eye for clear, well-presented design and layout.
  • Capability to produce renders, animations, or flow diagrams—either existing skills or a strong desire to develop these capabilities.
  • Self-motivated, organized individual capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Produce visually compelling, accurate 3D plant layouts and general arrangement designs using SolidWorks and 2D CAD tools.
  • Interpret customer enquiries and develop technical layouts and specifications with increasing independence.
  • Build and maintain a library of modular 3D models and standard equipment shells to streamline layout creation and improve efficiency.
  • Create high-quality renders, animations, flythroughs, and flow diagrams to enhance customer engagement and marketing efforts.
  • Explore emerging 3D visualization techniques such as laser scan integration, first-person walkthroughs, and web-based configurators to stay at the forefront of design technology.
  • Support project engineering and detailed design activities to facilitate the release of work to manufacturing when required.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of design standards, product standardization, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide technical support across sales, marketing, engineering, projects, and R&D teams, including attending site visits as needed.
