Summary – Basic Function Of The Role
We have an exciting opportunity for an Application Engineer to join our team in Cramlington, supporting customers and commercial teams across EMEA. This hybrid position is based onsite four days per week, with the flexibility to work from home on Fridays, and involves approximately 25% travel.
You will provide technical expertise throughout the sales process, translating customer requirements into practical and commercially viable product solutions. You will support the development of customer opportunities and manage technical projects from initial enquiry through to successful delivery.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Engineered Solutions
- Review customer requirements and recommend the most suitable solution, including standard products, modified products or newly engineered designs.
- Complete the technical calculations needed to confirm that proposed applications are suitable.
- Work closely with Design Engineering to ensure solutions meet customer, quality and technical requirements.
- Develop cost-effective solutions that meet customer needs while supporting profitable growth.
- Answer technical questions from customers, distributors, service centres and internal colleagues.
- Coordinate with technical teams across Enerpac to support effective and timely delivery.
Proposals And Quotations
- Review customer enquiries to understand the full technical and commercial requirements.
- Work with Sales, Engineering and Project teams to develop proposals and final quotations.
- Review bid proposals for technical accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare technical specifications and supporting documentation for quotations.
- Provide relevant product and technical information during the bid process.

Commercial And Customer Support
- Support the commercial team in developing customer opportunities across EMEA.
- Build trusted relationships with customers at both technical and commercial levels.
- Present Enerpac’s product and service portfolio and identify solutions that address customer needs.
- Support Regional and Key Account Managers during contract discussions.
- Act as a technical point of contact for Enerpac Service Centres.
- Provide aftersales support and help resolve technical or product-related concerns.
- Support customer and service-centre audits in partnership with the Service Centre Manager.
- Attend customer sites when required to help investigate and resolve technical issues.
Project Management
- Coordinate technical projects from initial enquiry through to execution and delivery.
- Ensure customer requirements, specifications and project information are accurate and complete before handover to Operations.
- Build strong working relationships with Engineering, Production, Operations, Customer Service and commercial teams.
- Monitor technical requirements, project timelines and customer expectations.
- Identify solutions to technical or onsite challenges.
- Prepare and maintain the technical documentation required throughout each project.
- Support safe project delivery in line with Enerpac’s health, safety, security and environmental standards.
General Responsibilities
- Contribute openly and constructively during regular team meetings.
- Support short- and long-term forecasting activities.
- Follow Enerpac’s HSEQ requirements and contribute to continuous safety improvement.
- Represent Enerpac professionally when working with customers, partners and colleagues.
- Follow company policies, procedures and published processes. Promote a working environment where health and safety remain a priority.
Skills And Competencies
- Ability to translate customer requirements into practical engineering solutions.
- Strong technical problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Commercial awareness, including an understanding of cost, value and customer needs.
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings, including 2D and 3D designs.
- Knowledge of engineering calculations, technical documentation and relevant design standards.
- Project coordination or project management capability.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Confidence working with customers and colleagues from different functions and cultures.
- Ability to manage priorities and work effectively with a level of independence.
- Collaborative and adaptable approach.
- Commitment to quality, safety and continuous improvement.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Education And Experience
- A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a comparable technical qualification.
- At least five years of relevant experience in application engineering, technical sales or another customer-facing engineering role.
- Experience gained within an industrial, OEM, manufacturing, engineering or technical distribution environment.
- Experience assessing technical requirements and developing engineered product solutions.
- Knowledge of design standards, technical documentation or product certification requirements.
- Professional fluency in written and spoken English.
Experience within the oil and gas, energy or petrochemical sectors would be beneficial but is not essential. Knowledge of additional European languages and experience with AutoCAD or Pro/ENGINEER would also be an advantage.
You must be comfortable travelling domestically and internationally for approximately 25% of your working time.
