Application Manager - Functions Technology

Location: Liverpool

Contract: 12-month Fixed term contract

Working pattern: Hybrid

I am looking for an experienced Application Manager to take ownership of a portfolio of enterprise applications supporting key corporate functions including Finance, People, Risk, Compliance and other central business areas.

This is a broad service and application ownership position. You'll be responsible for ensuring applications are stable, secure, properly controlled and supported, while improving how services, suppliers and operational risks are managed across the portfolio.

You'll lead an application team, coordinate internal technology teams and external suppliers, and work closely with senior business stakeholders to improve service performance and deliver change safely.

What you'll be doing

  • Own the health, performance, resilience and lifecycle of a portfolio of enterprise applications.
  • Maintain clear application ownership, support models, documentation, dependencies and recovery arrangements.
  • Lead major incident and problem management activity and drive action to prevent recurring issues.
  • Own application risks, controls, audit actions and remediation plans.
  • Ensure access, change, data and supplier controls are properly managed and evidenced.
  • Manage strategic technology suppliers against SLAs, contracts and service commitments.
  • Lead supplier reviews, escalations and improvement plans.
  • Work with business and delivery teams to prioritise application change.
  • Ensure new services and releases are operationally ready before going live.
  • Own service-transition requirements including support, monitoring, documentation, ownership and training.
  • Provide concise reporting covering application health, risk, cost, change and improvement priorities.
  • Lead and develop application team members while coordinating wider matrixed technology teams.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What I'm looking for

You'll ideally have previously owned a significant portfolio of enterprise or SaaS applications and be comfortable taking accountability for their ongoing operation rather than simply delivering projects.

Experience should include:

  • Enterprise application or SaaS service management.
  • ITIL-based service-management practices.
  • Major incident, problem and change management.
  • Operational resilience and service improvement.
  • Technology risk, controls and audit requirements.
  • Supplier, vendor and commercial management.
  • Application integrations, data flows, identity and access dependencies.
  • Service transition and operational readiness.
  • Leading multidisciplinary application or support teams.
  • Managing senior business and technology stakeholders.

Experience working within financial services or another regulated environment would be particularly useful.

ITIL certification would be beneficial, although strong practical service-management experience is equally relevant.

This would suit somebody who enjoys taking ownership of an application estate, bringing structure to complex services and improving the relationship between technology teams, suppliers and the business.
