Application Operation Engineer (Inside IR35)
On behalf of the Met Office, we are looking for an Application Operation Engineer (Inside IR35) for a 6 Month contract based Hybrid / in Exeter.
SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be willing & eligible to undergo checks. Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance.
As an Applications Operations Engineer in the OPV Vortex Support Team, you will be part of the team supporting this new platform as it gets developed and increases in use. Specifically, this role will focus on configuring and managing the data products that need to be set up to ensure that Operational Meteorologists can use Vortex.
As an Application Operation Engineer, your main responsibilities will be:
- Configuring products on the Vortex platform
- Using languages such as Handlebars.js/Moustache.js (product template logic) and Typst (product output layouts)
- Supporting the onboarding journey of these products by collaborating with stakeholders including Product Managers and Service Delivery Managers
- Reconfiguring these products once they have been onboarded
- Working as part of the team
- Manage Changes, Incidents and Problems using ServiceNow
- Being a member of a multi-disciplinary team as it matures to support the Vortex and its users
- Assisting with testing, verifying and providing feedback on system functionality provided by Vortex development teams when required.

Essential:
- Maintain secure configurations and accurate information.
- Manage service components to ensure they meet business needs and KPIs.
- Implement change requests and apply change control procedures under supervision.
- Understand process efficiency improvement techniques and common optimisation approaches.
- Support activities that improve development processes.
- Identify obvious process deficiencies.
- Identify and log incidents and gather required information and route incidents through the correct channels.
- Take ownership of issues until they are resolved, mitigated, or transferred to a new owner.
- Investigate problems affecting systems, processes, and services.
- Recognise whether problems are strategic, tactical, or operational.
- Contribute to implementing fixes and preventative measures.
- Support technical activities and carry out routine maintenance and administration tasks.

Desirable:
- Software development/programming experience is desirable, preferably using Typst, LaTeX, CSS, or a similar styling/markup language
