Application Operations Engineer

Salary/Rate

£530 per day (non-negotiable)

Contract Length

1 day per week onsite (Exeter)

Short Description of the Role

We're seeking an experienced Application Operations Engineer to join a team supporting a modern, business-critical digital platform currently being expanded across the organisation. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a next-generation application, supporting its ongoing development, configuration, and operational rollout as it replaces legacy systems.

You'll play a key role in configuring application products, supporting service delivery, and ensuring users have access to the tools and data they need. Working within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment, you'll help maintain platform stability while contributing to continual service improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Configure and maintain products within a modern enterprise platform.
  • Develop and maintain product templates using templating and document layout technologies.
  • Support the onboarding and ongoing configuration of new products and services.
  • Collaborate with delivery teams and stakeholders throughout implementation and operational support.
  • Manage Incidents, Problems and Changes using IT Service Management processes and tooling.
  • Support routine application maintenance, administration and operational activities.
  • Assist with testing, validation and verification of new platform functionality.
  • Monitor application performance and help ensure services meet business and operational requirements.
  • Work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary support team to deliver high-quality service.
  • Contribute to continual service improvement initiatives and process enhancements.

Essential Experience

  • Experience using templating languages such as Handlebars.js, Mustache.js, or similar.
  • Experience with document generation or layout tools such as Typst.
  • Experience supporting or administering enterprise applications within a production environment.
  • Strong background in application configuration and operational support.
  • Experience working with ITIL processes, including Incident, Problem and Change Management.
  • Experience using ServiceNow or similar IT Service Management platforms.
  • Ability to investigate, troubleshoot and resolve application issues.
  • Experience carrying out routine maintenance, administration and technical support activities.
  • Understanding of software testing principles and supporting test activities.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive and ownership-driven approach.
  • Experience working within collaborative, multi-disciplinary teams.

Desirable Experience

  • Knowledge of configuration management and service availability best practices.
  • Experience supporting cloud-hosted or modern digital platforms.
  • Understanding of Continual Service Improvement (CSI) methodologies.
  • Experience working within Agile delivery environments.
