On behalf of DWP, we are looking for an Application Packager for a 12 month (Inside IR35) contract based Hybrid in Blackpool or Manchester.
As an Application Packager, you will join a specialist engineering team responsible for the technical discovery, packaging, testing and deployment of enterprise applications across modern Windows platforms. You will bring strong expertise in application packaging technologies, PowerShell automation, Intune and SCCM/MECM, with the ability to troubleshoot complex deployment and endpoint security issues within a large-scale enterprise environment.
As an Application Packager your main responsibilities will be to:
- Create and maintain application packages using Master Packager (MSI), Microsoft App-V Sequencer, PowerShell, and PowerShell Application Deployment Toolkit (PSADT).
- Repackage legacy applications for deployment through modern technologies such as Microsoft Intune and Windows 365.
- Deploy, test, and troubleshoot applications across Intune, SCCM/MECM, and Citrix environments.
- Diagnose and resolve application deployment failures, conflicts and co-existence issues.
- Resolve issues caused by Windows Defender ASR and AppLocker rule blocks.
- Produce technical discovery and packaging documentation.
- Conduct peer reviews and testing as part of Packaging Quality Assurance (PQA).
- Work closely with engineering and support teams to ensure successful application delivery.

Essential Skills & Experience:
- Strong commercial experience in Application Packaging using MSI, App-V, PowerShell Application Deployment Toolkit (PSADT) and packaging tools such as Master Packager.
- Proven experience deploying applications through Microsoft Intune and SCCM/MECM.
- Advanced PowerShell scripting skills.
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
- Expert knowledge of Windows 11, including Registry, file systems, services, user and system contexts, policies, logging, and SysWOW64 redirection.
- Experience using Sysinternals and other diagnostic tools.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with Autopilot and Endpoint Security.
- Knowledge of Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, and Group Policy.
- Exposure to Citrix, Ivanti/AppSense, MSIX, and Microsoft Graph.
- Familiarity with Micke-K Intune Management Tools.
- Previous experience working within a Government or Public Sector environment.
What's Needed
- Demonstrable hands-on packaging and deployment experience.
- Ability to work independently within a specialist engineering team.
- Strong documentation and communication skills.
- Capability to discuss and demonstrate technical expertise during interview.
