Application Support Consultant

£40,000 to £45,000 | Remote, UK

Please note: You must currently be based in the UK to be considered for this role. This role does not offer sponsorship.

MCS Group is partnering with an established software company as it grows its UK customer support team. Its ERP platform helps businesses manage everything from finance and stock control through to CRM, eCommerce, reporting, warehousing and supply chain operations.

That makes the problems more interesting.

You could be investigating why a financial report doesn't look right in the morning, tracing data through an integration after lunch, and helping a customer understand a stock or warehouse process later that day.

This is not a general IT support or service desk position. You'll be trusted to investigate issues properly, understand the wider business process and guide customers towards the right solution.

What will you be doing?

  • Taking ownership of technical and functional customer queries
  • Investigating issues across ERP and wider business applications
  • Using SQL and database investigation to understand application and data issues
  • Reproducing problems and working through the likely root cause
  • Troubleshooting integrations and data flows between systems
  • Reviewing reports, files, application data and logs
  • Investigating issues across finance, sales, purchasing, stock, warehousing and other business processes
  • Explaining technical information clearly to non-technical customers
  • Documenting findings and creating useful internal knowledge
  • Working closely with support, customer success and development teams
  • Building a strong understanding of how customers use the software day-to-day

What we're looking for

We're deliberately being quite specific with this search.

Previous ERP or business application support experience is a requirement for this role.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

We're looking for someone who already understands what it's like to support software sitting across multiple areas of a business and who can investigate beyond the initial symptom reported by a customer.

To be considered, you must have:

  • Current UK residency
  • Commercial experience supporting ERP, accounting, finance, business management or similarly complex enterprise software
  • Hands-on experience using SQL and relational databases to investigate application or data issues
  • Experience troubleshooting complex application issues through to resolution
  • Experience with APIs, system integrations or data flows
  • An understanding of business processes such as finance, invoicing, purchasing, sales, stock, inventory, warehousing or reporting
  • Experience dealing directly with customers or business users
  • The ability to investigate whether an issue relates to the application, database, integration, configuration or user process
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A logical and structured approach to troubleshooting

If your experience is predominantly desktop support, hardware, infrastructure or general IT service desk support without ERP/business application experience, this position is unlikely to be the right fit.

Technical Experience

Alongside your ERP or business application background, we're particularly interested in experience across:

  • SQL Server or MySQL
  • SQL scripting and database investigation
  • REST or SOAP APIs
  • Postman or SoapUI
  • JSON or XML
  • FTP / SFTP
  • CSV files and Excel
  • Third-party software integrations
  • CRM
  • eCommerce
  • Warehouse or logistics systems
  • Business intelligence and reporting
  • Accounting or financial systems

You don't need experience with this company's specific ERP platform. Full product training will be provided.

This is an opportunity to move beyond surface-level support and work with software that sits at the centre of how customers run their businesses.

You'll have genuine ownership of customer problems and exposure to a broad technical environment covering ERP, SQL, databases, integrations, APIs, reporting and business processes.

You'll also receive full training on the company's own platform, with ongoing opportunities to continue developing your technical and commercial knowledge.

The package includes:

  • £40,000 to £45,000 salary
  • Fully remote working within the UK
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Private healthcare
  • Employer pension contribution
  • Exercise and wellbeing reimbursement
  • Full product training
  • Ongoing training and career development

If you're already supporting ERP or complex business software, are comfortable investigating issues using SQL and enjoy getting under the bonnet of applications to understand what's really going wrong, I'd be keen to speak with you.
