I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The ETRM Application Support position is ideally suited to someone with an ETRM background who can hit the ground running.
Endur experience is desirable, but they are not necessarily looking for someone who knows one particular ETRM inside out. The business wants someone who understands what ETRMs actually do, rather than someone who simply knows how to operate one particular system. You should understand both how something is done in an ETRM and why it is being done from a functional / trading perspective.
You don't necessarily need deep commodities experience, but you must understand the paper / trading side of the ETRM environment.
The key is understanding the underlying business functionality rather than simply knowing where to click within a particular system.
What they are looking for:
- Strong Application Support experience
- ETRM experience for the London-focused position
- Ideally Endur experience
- Strong SQL Experience
- Understanding of the functional side of ETRMs
- Understanding of trading / commodity processes
- Experience working across BAU and project environments
- Ability to troubleshoot and investigate application issues
- Experience working across integrations and upgrades
- Comfortable working with multiple applications / systems
- Financial Services / Commodities experience highly desirable
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Willingness to work across different offices and teams
- Mindset is important
