Role Summary

As an Application System Support Manager (SQL / Insurance Systems), you will be leading an international support team delivering Insurance Software solutions across London Market, General Insurance, and Health Insurance clients.

The role involves managing SLA delivery, issue resolution, client enhancements, release planning, reporting, invoicing, staffing, utilisation, and billability, while ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction and service quality.

Working with SQL Server and DXC application tools, you will be providing technical leadership and support, mentoring colleagues, supporting service delivery activities, and deputising for the Support Manager when required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading client service delivery through regular meetings, service reviews, reporting, and proactive communication.
  • Managing team performance, quality, compliance, documentation, internal processes, and resource planning.
  • Providing application and SQL support, ensuring service levels and client expectations are consistently met.
  • Overseeing invoicing, warranty reviews, utilisation, revenue forecasting, time reporting, and contractual SLA achievement.
  • Acting as an escalation point for clients and internal teams, ensuring issues are managed in accordance with agreed processes and procedures.
  • Coordinating release planning, scheduled work, development lifecycle communications, QA/UAT support, and the successful transition of new clients into support.
  • Training, supporting, mentoring, and developing team members on processes, SQL-related issues, and Insurance Software solutions.
  • Managing day-to-day team administration, including absence management, holiday planning, training, objectives, appraisals, and performance management.
  • Working closely with development, QA, service delivery, and client teams to ensure effective operational support and continuous service improvement.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 2 years' experience or exposure to insurance industry practices and/or insurance systems.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to motivate teams and deliver excellent customer service.
  • Proven SQL Server skills, including investigating issues, designing solutions, developing fixes, testing enhancements, and supporting deployments using SQL Server and DXC application tools.
  • Excellent organisational, reporting, and documentation skills, including producing high-quality management information.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, make timely decisions, solve complex problems, and support SQL Development, QA, and UAT testing activities.
  • Proven ability to influence clients and stakeholders on scope, timelines, costs, priorities, and solution approaches.
  • Flexible, self-motivated, and enthusiastic, with a willingness to learn new software tools, products, and technologies.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to client sites when required.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience working within the insurance industry.
  • Experience supporting enterprise-scale business applications.
  • Knowledge of Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies and ITIL practices.
  • Previous team leadership or people management experience.
  • Experience in business analysis and/or second-line application support.
  • Understanding of complex system architectures, database interactions, integrations, and error-resolution processes.
  • Experience with data analysis, reporting, and metadata management systems.
