Application Upgrade and Automation Engineer
SC Cleared - 6 month contract - Hybrid - London 50%
Our Financial Services client is seeking three Application & Platform Upgrade Engineers to join their Financial Systems and Solutions division. These roles will focus on upgrading enterprise applications across the estate and helping design future upgrade paths and strategies.
The successful candidates will bring hands-on experience upgrading applications across a range of technologies in Windows and Linux environments, ideally gained in other large-scale organisations. Strong automation skills are essential, as the team is building tooling to streamline and standardise application and infrastructure upgrades going forward.
These roles work closely with both application and infrastructure teams across the Bank, so clear, confident communication is important — you'll need to translate technical detail for different audiences and keep stakeholders informed throughout delivery.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
