Senior Algorithmic Trading Developer – Global Execution Services

Department Overview
As the Global Execution Services technology division for Nomura’s Wholesale IT, the team provides brokerage technology solutions to clients in over 65 markets worldwide. Nomura enables institutions to lower trading costs and improve investment performance through:
- Advanced electronic trading strategies

Role Description
Nomura’s proprietary algorithmic trading systems are designed to support diverse trading styles and objectives. The platform processes a significant portion of daily client order flow globally, serving as a critical business system for the firm.
The solution delivers a core set of global, event-driven, multi-asset trading strategies, alongside a library of regularly updated component tactics and controls for refining trade behavior. Clients can easily customize strategies to align with specific goals.

The algorithmic trading team collaborates closely with quantitative analysts to develop new strategies and refine the firm’s portfolio of algorithmic offerings. The role demands an exceptional technologist with deep experience in mission-critical, highly dynamic systems.
Key Responsibilities
As a core member of the Global Execution Services algo team, the successful candidate will:
- Develop, enhance, and troubleshoot new features and bug fixes for Nomura’s algorithmic trading platform.
- Participate in the full project lifecycle, including:
- Technical analysis and design
- Data analysis and mapping
- Implementation
- Testing and deployment
- Occasionally provide Level 2/3 support for front-office applications.
- Ensure alignment with functional architecture strategies and company development standards.
- Liaise with business and development teams to prioritize and oversee tasks and projects.
- Where required, assist in managing projects for implementing new systems or upgrades.
Requirements
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Experience in designing and building algorithmic trading systems with a focus on equity markets.
- Hands-on proficiency in Java development for algorithmic trading applications.
- Strong professionalism and ability to thrive in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.
- Demonstrates self-direction, initiative, and adaptability to achieve strategic objectives.
- Excellent time management and prioritization skills.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience
- Experience with CI/CD automation.
- Knowledge of distributed systems and messaging architectures.
- Familiarity with event-driven systems and/or hands-on experience.
- Understanding of financial markets, including local market characteristics.
- Networking and TCP/IP expertise with experience in enterprise messaging solutions.
