About The Role
Our client in Sheffield is seeking a talented Applications Engineer to join their dynamic team. This role offers an exciting opportunity for an engineering professional passionate about technology and innovation. The Applications Engineer will play a pivotal role in supporting new product development, manufacturing processes, and existing technologies. They will oversee the entire product lifecycle, from request for quotation (RFQ) and design for manufacturing (DFM) to production prove-out, ensuring efficiency and cost-effectiveness. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including operations, quality, and customer technical teams, to deliver high-quality solutions aligned with company objectives.
The role requires a proactive individual capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously, with a focus on process optimization, cost reduction, and continuous improvement. The Applications Engineer will act as a key technical resource, utilizing their expertise to drive best practices and implement innovative solutions. Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent discipline. Candidates currently pursuing their degree or additional qualifications are encouraged to apply. A minimum of five years' experience in a similar applications engineering role within a manufacturing environment is essential. Experience in working with geometrically complex milled and turned components, particularly in sectors such as orthopaedics or aerospace, is highly desirable. Proven track record in managing engineering projects, familiarity with project tracking tools, and experience working within regulated industries with strict process adherence are critical for success.
Responsibilities
- Plan, lead, and execute multiple engineering programs, monitoring progress and reporting deliverables to management.
- Collaborate with internal teams including Programme Management, Quality, Planning, and Production, as well as external customer technical teams, to ensure project alignment and successful outcomes.
- Oversee manufacturing process ownership by developing and optimizing work instructions, proactively identifying improvement opportunities, and ensuring production efficiency.
- Participate in daily operations meetings, providing technical input and resolutions, and ensuring timely communication of feedback to relevant teams.
- Provide accurate financial estimations to support quotations and program pro formas, ensuring manufacturing costs meet targets and identifying solutions when off track.
- Utilize extensive technical knowledge and industry experience to drive best practices and implement innovative solutions across projects.
