About The Role
Our client in Sheffield is seeking a talented Applications Engineer to join their dynamic team. This role offers an exciting opportunity for an individual passionate about engineering and manufacturing processes, who thrives in a fast-paced environment and aims to make a significant impact on product development and operational efficiency. The Applications Engineer will play a vital role in supporting new product introductions, optimizing manufacturing processes, and ensuring the seamless transition from design to production. The successful candidate will oversee the full product lifecycle, from RFQ and DFM to production prove-out, identifying opportunities for cost reduction and rework minimization. This position requires a flexible approach, balancing operational support with engineering objectives to drive continuous improvement and innovation within the organization.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a degree in Engineering, such as Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent discipline. Candidates who are currently pursuing their engineering qualifications will also be considered, provided they demonstrate relevant experience and a strong commitment to their professional development.

Applicants should have a minimum of five years of experience in a similar role, with substantial exposure to manufacturing geometrically complex components, particularly in sectors such as orthopaedics and aerospace. Proven experience in delivering engineering projects, familiarity with project tracking tools, and working within heavily regulated industries with strict process adherence and change control are essential. Additionally, candidates should have a solid understanding of manufacturing processes, CNC programming, and industrial engineering principles.
Responsibilities
- Plan, lead, and execute multiple engineering programs, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with management expectations. Monitor project progress and report on key milestones.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Programme Management, Quality, Planning, and Production, as well as external customer technical teams, to ensure smooth project execution.
- Take ownership of manufacturing processes for assigned programs, developing and optimizing work instructions, and proactively identifying opportunities for process improvements.
- Participate in daily Operations meetings to provide technical input, resolve issues, and ensure effective communication of feedback to relevant teams.
- Provide accurate financial estimations to support program pro formas and customer quotations, ensuring manufacturing costs align with project targets. Develop solutions to address cost variances and maintain budget adherence.
- Utilize extensive technical expertise to implement best practices, collaborate with stakeholders, and introduce innovative solutions that enhance manufacturing efficiency and quality.
