We're recruiting on behalf of a rapidly growing international engineering business supporting major projects across the energy and industrial sectors.
As part of a significant growth and transformation programme, they're expanding their technical capability across gas turbine power systems, hydrogen, carbon capture, grid infrastructure, industrial energy recovery, water treatment and nuclear.
They're now looking for Mechanical Applications Engineers to join the technical arm of their Sales team, providing the engineering expertise behind complex customer solutions from initial enquiry and concept development through to proposal, costing and contract award.
What you'll do
- Develop preliminary engineering concepts and technical solutions during the sales and bid phase
- Carry out engineering calculations across mechanical and process equipment
- Review customer specifications, drawings, technical requirements and international standards
- Support solutions involving equipment such as pressure vessels, heat exchangers, piping systems, modular skids, structural frames, filtration and noise-control systems
- Prepare technical documents, sketches and specifications to support accurate project costing
- Coordinate internal and external cost estimates and produce bid cost sheets
- Develop detailed technical proposals that meet customer and project requirements
- Work closely with Sales, Engineering, Project Management, Supply Chain and external suppliers
- Attend customer meetings in the UK and internationally
- Support projects from initial enquiry through to contract award and successful project launch

What you'll bring
- A strong understanding of general mechanical engineering principles, including applied mechanics, thermodynamics and heat/mass balance
- 2+ years' experience within Applications Engineering, Technical Sales, Proposals, Design Engineering or a similar technical role
- Experience developing technical concepts, proposals, calculations or solutions for industrial projects
- Ability to interpret technical specifications, drawings and customer requirements
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Commercial awareness, or an interest in developing further within a customer-facing/commercial engineering environment
- HND or equivalent engineering qualification; a relevant degree would be advantageous

Nice to have
Experience within one or more of the following would be particularly relevant:
- Gas turbines / power generation
- Hydrogen production and storage
- Carbon capture
- Industrial energy recovery / Waste-to-X
- Power grid / energy infrastructure
- Industrial water treatment
- Nuclear
- Process equipment, pressure systems, heat exchangers, piping or modular/skid packages
Closely related industrial engineering backgrounds will also be considered.
The details
This is an opportunity to join a growing international engineering group at an exciting stage of its development, with significant investment being made into its energy and technical sales capability.
The role is based in Derbyshire, with office-based working preferred due to the collaborative and technical nature of the position. There may be some flexibility for particularly experienced candidates with highly relevant industry knowledge.
Salary is £30,000 to £50,000 depending on experience (DOE), with flexibility for an exceptional candidate.
