Help build AI that protects the world's most valuable content. Every weekend, millions of people watch live sport. Some watch legally. Many don't. Friend MTS helps the world's leading broadcasters, sports organisations and streaming platforms understand, detect and disrupt digital piracy at internet scale. We're investing heavily in AI to solve problems that traditional software can't. If you're excited about applying AI to messy, real-world data - not Kaggle competitions - we'd like to talk.
The opportunity
As an Applied AI Data Scientist, you'll work on some of the most challenging data problems in the media and cyber security industries. You'll help build AI-powered products that analyse streaming, network and behavioural data to uncover organised piracy, identify abnormal activity and provide actionable intelligence to our customers. This isn't a research role. It's about applying AI to solve real customer problems. You'll work alongside software engineers, intelligence analysts and product managers to build production systems used by customers around the world.
What you'll build
You'll help develop intelligent systems that can:
- Detect organised piracy activity
- Identify abnormal behavioural patterns
- Analyse large-scale streaming and network data
- Automate investigations using LLMs and AI agents
- Discover hidden relationships across billions of events
- Turn complex data into products customers rely on every day
Some projects will last weeks. Others will become core parts of our platform.
What you'll do
You'll be involved across the full AI lifecycle, including:

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
