We have a fantastic opportunity for a Health and Safety Apprentice to join our Traffic Management account within Amey's Transport Infrastructure Business Unit, based in Manchester. Whether you are leaving school, finishing college or looking for a new direction, this is a great place to start building your future career.
Starting Salary: £24,920.81 per annum (Subject to review)
Location: Amey Manchester, Factory Lane, Manchester M9 8AB.
Working hours per week: Monday to Friday, 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. 37.5 hours per week.
Start date: April 2027
Apprenticeship Link: Safety, health and environment technician / Skills England
As part of your apprenticeship, you will be enrolled on the Safety, Health and Environment Technician Level 3 apprenticeship, which will take approximately 27 months to complete. You will be fully supported by our partnered college and your Amey team, with one-to-one advice, e-learning materials, mentoring and experienced colleagues on hand to help you learn, ask questions and build your technical knowledge.

Amey Traffic Management is a specialist standalone business within Amey Transport Infrastructure, delivering traffic management services across seven contracts throughout England, supporting both Local Authority and National Highways clients.
With an annual turnover exceeding £30 million, the business continues to experience significant growth and development across multiple sectors.
Operating from several depots nationwide, the account employs more than 200 directly employed staff, supported by a network of specialist subcontractors.
The business delivers high-quality traffic management solutions for planned works, major infrastructure projects and emergency response activities, ensuring the safety of our workforce, clients, road users and the wider public.

What You Will Do
- Support the delivery of Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) activities across all Amey Traffic Management contracts.
- Assist with planned and unannounced site inspections, audits and assurance activities to verify compliance with company standards, legislation and client requirements, including day and night activity throughout the year.
- Monitor compliance with Safe Systems of Work (SSOWs), risk assessments and operational procedures.
- Support investigations into incidents, near misses, service failures and unsafe acts, ensuring lessons learned are captured and communicated.
- Assist in the collection, analysis and reporting of HSEQ performance data, trends and key metrics.
- Promote and support the Amey Zero Code and positive safety culture across the workforce.
- Participate in depot inspections and workplace compliance reviews, identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Support the development, review and communication of risk assessments, SSOWs and other operational documentation.
- Assist with the delivery of safety briefings, campaigns, toolbox talks and workforce engagement initiatives.
- Build effective working relationships with operatives, supervisors, managers, clients and stakeholders across multiple contracts.
- Support compliance with ISO management systems, legal obligations and client-specific HSEQ requirements.
- Maintain accurate records, reports and documentation in accordance with company procedures.
- Attend training, development programmes and apprenticeship activities to achieve the Level 3 qualification and professional development objectives.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing safety, quality, environmental performance and operational excellence.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties that support the effective delivery of HSEQ objectives across Amey Traffic Management.

What You Will Bring
We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, keen to learn and ready to build their confidence in a supportive team.
- If you are under 19 and do not hold Maths and/or English qualifications, you will need to complete Functional Skills.
- Full UK driving licence.
