If you’re interested in how businesses work and want to start a career in accountancy without needing previous practice experience, our Business Services team gives you the opportunity to learn while doing real client work.

At Ballards, you’ll build a broad grounding across accounts, tax, bookkeeping and VAT from day one. You’ll learn from experienced colleagues, develop practical and commercial skills and work towards a recognised professional accountancy qualification through a structured apprenticeship programme.

Why Ballards?

Starting your career at Ballards means joining a firm where you’ll be known as an individual, not just another trainee.

You’ll get real responsibility and client exposure from the start, while learning alongside experienced colleagues who will support you as your confidence and technical knowledge develop. Our Business Services team gives you broad experience across accounts, tax, bookkeeping and VAT, helping you understand how businesses really work rather than limiting you to one narrow area too early in your career.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
