I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
Responsibilities
The initial responsibilities and work areas for the post will be dependent on the candidate's apprenticeship pathway; however, core responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- Organising meetings, including coordinating multiple diaries.
- Liaising with partner and anchor organisations to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
- Supporting colleagues in the delivery of a high-quality service.
- Maintaining accurate records, databases and filing systems.
- Assisting with the preparation of reports, presentations and meeting papers.
- Providing administrative support to projects, events and partnership meetings as required.
Additional Information
- Apprentices aged 16-18 will still have to complete an English and Maths functional skills qualification - equivalent to a GCSE - as a course requirement if they do not already have the level requirements for Maths and English for the apprenticeship standard. (An assessment will take place before the interview stage.)
- For apprentices aged 19+, Level 2 English and Math’s are now optional, and it is at the manager’s discretion if they require learners to study these qualifications at functional skills level (requires additional study time).
- Although no longer an entry requirement for apprentices aged 19+, training providers are required to report and evidence baseline knowledge of English and Math’s for each apprentice as part of their initial assessment.
- Applicants who are unable to evidence achievement of an approved Level 2 qualification at application stage will undertake an assessment to identify their working level.
