Summary
Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Apprentice Audiologist Assistant to join our friendly and supportive Audiology team. This is an exciting opportunity to start your NHS career, earn while you learn, and gain valuable experience in Audiology and Healthcare Science.
Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience. What you'll do at work:
- Participate in the provision of an open access hearing aid repair service for adults and children under the supervision of qualified Practitioners
- Carry out otoscopy and assess whether it is safe to take an impression of the ear or whether the patient requires ENT intervention
- Take appropriate impressions of ears and adjust or alter existing ear moulds as required
- Carry out first line management of hearing aid repair as and when required, including replacement/reprogramming of digital hearing aids
- Provide patients with batteries and other hearing aid accessories
- Communicate routine information about a patient’s condition, care plan, prognosis to the patient and carers in a manner that is easily understood.
- Communicate effectively with patients and carers including those who have barriers to understanding due to degree of hearing loss, language, disability, special needs.
- Provide relevant information on other services available such as Social Services, environmental aids, accessories
- To dispatch earmoulds/hearing aids and process return of earmoulds/hearing aids from the manufacturers
- Monitor stock levels and place orders when stock levels fall below specified values. Dispatch stock, including earmoulds and process deliveries/returns
- Ensure the appropriate use of resources, ensuring minimal waste and cost
- Assist where appropriate with the departmental clerical duties eg. post, reception duties, entering and checking patient details on the patient administration system, answering the workshop telephone and dealing with patient enquiries
- Input patients to appropriate waiting list for reassessment of hearing aid status
- Ensure all patients are received promptly in a professional and courteous manner
- Record relevant and appropriate information in the patient record systems (paper/electronic) and care plans.
- Undertake administrative tasks relevant to the role
- Assist in maintaining a safe and tidy work environment
- Identify risks to the patient or staff, reporting the information at the earliest opportunity to a qualified member
