Passionate about cars? Join us as an Autocare Technician! You’ll service and repair a wide range of vehicles while developing your technical skills. Perfect for anyone who loves problem-solving and wants to build a rewarding career in the automotive industry, if you are keen, this will be a great role for you!
As an apprentice, you will learn all the skills to become a top Autocare Technician with a fantastic range of future career options ahead of you. You will use a range of tools, measuring and diagnostic equipment to identify & repair simple system faults.
Due to the UK skills shortage within the automotive sector, you will be the next generation of technicians with the ability to adapt and change. This is a great role for someone who is willing to jump start their career!
Duties include:
- Find and diagnose faults using hand tools or a computer
- Advise customers on what repairs are needed
- Estimate time and costs for jobs
- Road test vehicles to check repairs
- Tyre fitting
- Repairs to exhausts, batteries, brakes, and servicing
Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills.
Apprenticeship training is delivered via weekly block releases at S&B throughout a year, learning will also take place in the workplace and a S&B Development Coach and Workplace Mentor are allocated to support and monitor your progress to help you reach your goals and manage your workload. Your employer will pay you when you are attending weekly training blocks at S&B.

S&B Automotive Academy is a specialist apprenticeship training provider located in Bedminster, Bristol. Whether you're seeking to kickstart your career in the automotive industry or business industry, S&B Automotive Academy is your go-to partner for excellence in training!
S&B has been training apprentices since the 1970s and are one of the largest training providers in the Automotive and Business sector. We pride ourselves on our collaboration with a wide range of employers.
To be considered for this apprenticeship, you must have GCSEs, Functional Skills or Key Skills at grade C/4 or above in English and maths (or equivalent). If your grades are below this, we will discuss your options for taking functional skills in Maths and/or English. As well as this, predicated grades are accepted, and work experience or knowledge is beneficial but not essential.
As a result, you will receive the following:
- Level 2 Autocare standard
- Level 2 Functional skills in Maths and English (If not already exempt)
Essential qualifications:
- GCSE in:
- English (grade 3)
- Maths (grade 3)
Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Business owner Chris is a Volkswagen dealer trained mechanic (since 2002) and now works as an independent VW specialist, including the Volkswagen group Audi, Seat and Skoda vehicles. We’re a friendly garage team providing a range of car services for Bath, Radstock, Midsomer Norton, Wells and the surrounding areas, helping to lower your VW service costs but with the expertise and quality you can trust. We can collect your car if it’s more convenient and provide a courtesy car on request during your car service!
MCM Garage also carry out car services and repairs to other makes of vehicles – we don’t just fix Golfs, Tiguans and Passats. Owners Chris and Matt have built up good working relationships with other local garages, including specialists and main dealers to help get your car repaired and get through its MOT via our in-house, trusted MOT station.
