Level 3 Bid and Proposal Coordinator Apprenticeship
Location: Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire
Contract: Full-time, 40 hours per week
Salary: Up to £10 p/h plus Benefits & Course fees
Start: September/ October 2026 (course begins in October 2026)
VolkerHighways is a market leader in the delivery of highways and street lighting term maintenance contracts. We have the capability to deliver major surfacing and public realm infrastructure projects. Our specialist in-house traffic management division provides expert advice and support across the industry, whilst assisting with our own, in-house contracts.
About the Role
The Bid and Proposals Coordinator Apprentice provides day-to-day support to the Work Winning team while developing an understanding of bid and proposal management. You will be supported by an experienced Work Winning team, with regular feedback, mentoring and opportunities to learn from bid managers, writers, commercial colleagues and operational teams. You will also take part in training, reviews and development activities linked to your apprenticeship. The role is designed to build the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed for a future career in bid and proposal management.
What You'll Be Doing
- Assist the Bid Manager and wider team with the preparation and coordination of bids, proposals and related submission documents.
- Help track actions, deadlines and information requests to support timely submissions.
- Support meetings, reviews and follow-up actions by preparing notes, collating information and issuing updates.
- Learn how to check documents for accuracy, consistency and compliance with client requirements.
- Maintain bid folders, trackers, templates and version control records in line with team processes.
- Support the upkeep of the bid library, including case studies, CVs, standard responses and company information.
- Assist with gathering information and evidence from colleagues across the business to support submissions.
- Format, proofread and assemble documents and presentations to a professional standard with support from the team.
- Assist with updating templates, presentation materials and supporting documents for bids and proposals.
- Accurately incorporate comments and amendments into draft documents.
- Develop an understanding of bid processes, client requirements and good practice through day-to-day experience and formal learning.
- Build confidence in writing, organisation and communication skills to support future progression within the Work Winning function.
- Take part in training, feedback and development activities as part of the apprenticeship programme.
- Provide general administrative support to the team across bid, proposal and business development activities.
- Assist with updating systems, contact records and bid-related information as required.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and show a willingness to learn from feedback and experience.

About You
You do not need previous bid experience, we are looking for someone who is organised, curious, reliable and keen to learn. You will enjoy writing, working with people, asking questions, using Microsoft Office and producing accurate, well-presented work.
You'll Need:
- A high level of writing skills
- Knowledge of Microsoft suite products
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to develop relationships at all levels
- The ability to manage multiple projects at any one time
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- 5 GCSE's or equivalent at grade 4 or above, Including English & Maths

- Alongside day-to-day experience, you will complete a Level 3 Bid and Proposal Coordinator apprenticeship, developing skills in bid processes, proposal writing, customer requirements, compliance, document production and teamwork. Over time, this could lead to opportunities in bid coordination, bid writing, proposal management, business development or wider commercial roles.
