Apprentice Brokerage Support Officer

Location: Halifax (HX1 1TS)

Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join our newly developing Centralised Brokerage Team, which sits within the System and Finance Service in Integrated Commissioning and Partnerships at Calderdale Council.

Wage: £15,392 to £24,454.04, depending on your age
Training: Business administrator (level 3)
Hours: Monday - Friday, 9.00am to 5.00pm. Flexible working hours, including home-working (subject to the needs of the role). 37 hours a week
Start date: Wednesday 6 January 2027
Duration: 1 year 9 months

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Support the Brokerage Teams to provide an efficient service on the Brokering of community-based services, and residential placements and in accordance with relevant contracts, policies and Council guidelines
  • With support manage the Brokerage teams inboxes, and phone lines daily, resolving routine queries independently, and ensuring emails are responded to quickly, effectively and compassionately, using judgement to prioritise and escalate medium to high-level complex queries and urgent issues to other members of the Brokerage Teams
  • Input data and maintain records on the Council Case Management System alongside established IT systems
  • Maintaining and closing individual’s records when services have changed or ceased
  • With support review referrals which are received into the Brokerage teams for completeness and accuracy, independently resolving issues where feasible. Identifying and highlighting inconsistencies, delays or risks within brokerage activity, escalating where required to support timely and cost-effective service delivery
  • Develop and maintain effective professional working relationships and communication with Providers, Social Work teams, Commissioning, Contracts and Quality, Health Services, and other key stakeholders, providing accurate, timely and comprehensive responses to all queries ensuring deadlines are met with minimal supervision and escalating as appropriate
  • Undertake all processes and duties in a timely and efficient manner, prioritising workload according to the urgency of the request received. Ensuring effective communication with the originators of request

What you'll learn

Skilled in the use of multiple IT packages and systems relevant to the organisation in order to:

  • Write letters or emails, create proposals, perform financial processes, record and analyse data.
  • Examples include MS Office or equivalent packages.

Able to:

  • Choose the most appropriate IT solution to suit the business problem.
  • Update and review databases, record information and produce data analysis where required.

Essential qualifications

  • GCSE in: English and Maths (grade C / 5 or above)
