Summary
An exciting opportunity to join a growing healthcare services business. You’ll gain hands-on experience across administration, customer service and business operations, while developing your skills through a supported apprenticeship.
Wage: £17,472 to £27,758.64, depending on your age
National Minimum Wage: Minimum wage rates (opens in new tab)
We offer 2-3 additional days leave seasonally between 25th and 31st December as the office is closed between Christmas and New Year.
Training
Course: Business administrator (level 3)
Hours: 9.00am to 5.30pm, Monday to Thursday. 9.00am to 5.00pm, Friday. 42 hours a week

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
Duties will include, but will not be limited to:
- This is a varied, hands-on role supporting the day-to-day running of a busy healthcare and laboratory services business. No two days will be exactly the same, and you’ll have the opportunity to develop experience across customer service, sales administration, logistics and general business administration.
- As part of a small and supportive team, you’ll gradually take on more responsibility as your confidence and skills develop.
- An average day or week could include:
- Supporting our sales and operations: helping to process customer orders and enquiries, preparing and packing testing kits for dispatch, arranging courier collections, tracking kits through the courier network and helping to resolve any delivery or collection queries
- Supporting the wider business administration: keeping electronic and paper records organised, filing and updating information, working with spreadsheets and Word documents, entering and checking data, and helping the team with a range of general administrative tasks needed to keep the business running smoothly.
- Diary management
This apprenticeship would suit someone who enjoys variety, is organised and pays attention to detail. You’ll be working in an environment where accuracy and good customer service are important, while gaining a broad understanding of how a growing business operates.

What you'll learn
Skilled in the use of multiple IT packages and systems relevant to the organisation in order to:
- Write letters or emails
- Create proposals
- Perform financial processes
- Record and analyse data
Examples include MS Office or equivalent packages.
Able to choose the most appropriate IT solution to suit the business problem. Able to update and review databases, record information and produce data analysis where required.
Produces accurate records and documents including:
- Emails
- Letters
- Files
- Payments
- Reports
- Proposals
Makes recommendations for improvements and present solutions to management. Drafts correspondence, writes reports and able to review others' work. Maintains records and files, handles confidential information in compliance with the organisation's procedures. Coaches others in the processes required to complete these tasks.
Exercises proactivity and good judgement. Makes effective decisions based on sound reasoning and is able to deal with challenges in a mature way. Seeks advice of more experienced team members when appropriate.
Builds and maintains positive relationships within their own team and across the organisation. Demonstrates ability to influence and challenge appropriately. Becomes a role model to peers and team members, developing coaching skills as they gain area knowledge.
Demonstrates good communication skills, whether face-to-face, on the telephone, in writing or on digital platforms. Uses the most appropriate channels to communicate effectively. Demonstrates agility and confidence in communications, carrying authority appropriately. Understands and applies social media solutions appropriately.
Answers questions from inside and outside of the organisation, representing the organisation or department.
Completes tasks to a high standard. Demonstrates the necessary level of expertise required to complete tasks and applies themself to continuously improve their work. Is able to review processes autonomously and make suggestions for improvements. Shares administrative best-practice across the organisation e.g. coaches others to perform tasks correctly.
Applies problem-solving skills to resolve challenging or complex complaints and is a key point of contact for addressing issues. Takes responsibility for initiating and completing tasks, manages priorities and time in order to successfully meet deadlines.
Positively manages the expectations of colleagues at all levels and sets a positive example for others in the workplace. Makes suggestions for improvements to working practice, showing understanding of implications beyond the immediate environment (e.g. impact on clients, suppliers, other parts of the organisation).
Manages resources e.g. equipment or facilities. Organises meetings and events, takes minutes during meetings and creates action logs as appropriate. Takes responsibility for logistics e.g. travel and accommodation.

Training schedule
The successful candidate will work towards achieving their Apprenticeship Standard in Level 3 Business Administration. A dedicated work-based trainer will be assigned to the candidate to provide them with support and guidance throughout the course.
This is a work-based programme with College attendance required once a month. All learning will take place at the candidate's place of employment/College and within their contracted working hours.
Requirements
Essential qualifications:
- GCSE in: English and Maths (grade A*/9 – C/4)

Other requirements:
- That there will be a lot to learn, but you will be supported and we don’t expect anyone to have test knowledge. We treat them as products so it becomes easier to learn.
About this employer
We are a laboratory facilitation service, so we support private healthcare practitioners access laboratory tests that they may want their patients to do. We also work directly with members of the public for a small number of tests. Technical support is provided by the MD so the office team deal with sales admin, customer service and logistics.
