This is an exciting opportunity to start your career working for the NHS

You will be employed as an Apprentice Care Navigator and will assist with directing patients to the correct healthcare professionals. You will undertake a Customer Service Practitioner apprenticeship standard.

Wage

  • £15,392 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age
  • National Minimum Wage rate for apprentices

Training course

  • Customer service practitioner (level 2)

Hours

  • Monday to Friday, hours TBC
  • 37 hours a week

What you'll do at work

  • Meet and greet patients into the practice with a warm and friendly manner
  • Monitoring the appointment book
  • Answering phone calls from patients
  • Direct patients to other healthcare professionals
  • General clerical tasks such as filing, scanning and photocopying

What you'll learn

Course contents

  • Use a range of questioning skills, including listening and responding in a way that builds rapport, determines customer needs and expectations and achieves positive engagement and delivery.
  • Depending on your job role and work environment: Use appropriate verbal and non-verbal communication skills, along with summarising language during face-to-face communications; and/or
  • Depending on your job role and work environment: Use appropriate communication skills, along with reinforcement techniques (to confirm understanding) during non-facing customer interactions.
  • Depending on your job role and work environment: Use an appropriate ‘tone of voice’ in all communications, including written and digital, that reflect the organisation’s brand.
  • Provide clear explanations and offer options in order to help customers make choices that are mutually beneficial to both the customer and your organisation.
  • Be able to organise yourself, prioritise your own workload/activity and work to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrate patience and calmness.
  • Show you understand the customer’s point of view.
  • Use appropriate sign-posting or resolution to meet your customers needs and manage expectations.
  • Maintain informative communication during service recovery.

Training schedule

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will gain a Customer Service Practitioner Standard. Completion of this apprenticeship will lead to eligibility to join the Institute of Customer Service as an Individual member at Professional level. On successful completion of Level 2, you can move on to study Level 3 apprenticeships, such as Customer Service Specialist and Business Administrator Apprenticeship.

  • Functional Skills English and Maths if required.
  • Training will take place at National Business College, based in the centre of Huddersfield. You will attend sessions on a day release basis, once every fortnight.

Essential qualifications

  • GCSE in:
    • English (grade 4)

Desirable qualifications

    • Maths (grade 4)
