Join our family-owned commercial vehicle workshop as an Apprentice Technician. Work on customer vehicles and our fleet of heavy recovery trucks, learning from experienced technicians. What you'll do at work
- Assist experienced technicians with servicing, maintenance and repairs on commercial vehicles.
- Learn how to carry out periodic safety inspections and MOT preparations.
- Support engine servicing and maintenance activities.
- Assist with repairs to engines, gearboxes, suspension, clutches, brakes and electrical systems.
- Learn to use computer diagnostic equipment and perform fault-finding procedures.
- Help maintain a clean, safe and organised workshop environment.
- Gain hands-on experience working on customer vehicles and our fleet of heavy recovery vehicles.
- Develop practical skills and industry knowledge through on-the-job training.

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Carry out the basic tasks with tools and equipment common to all procedures involving basic mechanical and electrical procedures related to HV.
- The ability to keep updated with emerging new technologies within the HV industry.
- Contribute to the maintenance of a safe and efficient workshop and adhere to the company and legislative processes.
- Access specific and related HV technical information appropriately.
- The ability to service, inspect and maintain HVs and trailers to meet company, Driver and vehicle standards agency (DVSA) and manufacturers’ standards.
- Use a range of diagnostic and electrical measuring equipment to identify faults and underlying causes on HV’s.
- Successfully inspect and prepare vehicles and trailers to meet DVSA standards prescribed in the tester’s manual.
- Carry out final quality checks before handover to the customer without supervision.
- Apply advanced diagnostic principles and logical/problem solving techniques and regimes.
- Maintain records to company and operators’ licence obligations and regulation.
- To be able to communicate effectively in both oral and written mediums both internally and with customers on a range of topics that will support, HV inspection and diagnosing techniques.

Essential qualifications
- GCSE in:
- English and Maths (grade 4/C or higher)
Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

We are a 24 hour commercial vehicle recovery operator with a commercial vehicle repair workshop. We are family owned and operated and as a family are very hands on within the business. Permanent employment with opportunities in our workshop and as a roadside technician or a recovery technician for the right candidate. Opportunity for the right candidate to gain a HGV Class 1 driving license when at the required age. All future prospects depend on the level of commitment and work attained during the apprenticeship.
