As an apprentice, you’ll be receiving practical and professional training right from the start. Working alongside experienced colleagues who will supervise your development and a dedicated mentor providing support and guidance throughout your training. You will have regular reviews with your manager and tutor so you know how you are doing and can gain support with any activities to help you progress.

At Southampton City Council we are committed to paying Foundation Living Wage as a minimum and we believe apprentices should also be paid fairly. Your salary as an apprentice will be £24,795 annually and may increase in line with any national rise in Foundation Living Wage.
Southampton City Council is committed to investing in and developing its apprentices. Subject to satisfactory performance, successful completion of the apprenticeship programme and continued organisational requirements, the intention is for the successful candidate to move into a permanent Compliance and Project Officer position at the end of the apprenticeship. This provides an excellent opportunity to build a long-term career within the council.
About The Role
We are looking for a confident and conscientious individual to undertake the role of Apprentice Compliance and Project Officer.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Compliance and Project Officer to join our Transport and Planning team. This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience supporting major transport and infrastructure programmes that help improve how people travel around our city.

As an Apprentice Compliance and Project Officer, you will develop skills in project management, compliance monitoring, performance reporting, data analysis, audit preparation and business administration, whilst studying towards a Level 3 Apprenticeship qualification.
You’ll play a key role in helping ensure that programmes and projects are delivered in line with council standards, governance requirements, and funding conditions.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Supporting transport and infrastructure projects to ensure they are delivered in line with council policies, governance requirements and funding obligations.
- Assisting with performance monitoring and reporting activities.
- Helping maintain project plans, programme documentation and project management systems.
- Supporting financial and programme reporting processes.
- Supporting the maintenance of risk, issue, assumption and dependency (RAID) registers.
- Helping prepare information and documentation for audits, inspections and funding assurance reviews.
- Supporting the production of reports, dashboards and performance information.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues across Transport, Planning, Finance and Procurement teams.
- Providing administrative support to programmes and projects to help ensure successful delivery.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who is enthusiastic, organised and eager to learn.
Essential
- 5 GCSEs (including Maths, English and Science) at Grade 4/C or above.
- Eligible to undertake a Level 3 Apprenticeship programme.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage your time effectively and meet deadlines.
- Willingness to learn and develop new skills.
Desirable
- An interest in transport, sustainability, and how people travel around a city.
- Experience using online systems or databases.
- An interest in project management, compliance or business improvement.
