Apprentice Dental Nurse

Summary
The role of a dental nurse is to support the dentist, hygienist or therapist, the patient and the team. This includes preparing the treatment area, assisting during procedures, following strict infection control standards and helping patients feel comfortable throughout their visit.
Wage: £14,560 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age
National Minimum Wage: rate for apprentices
Training
Course: Dental nurse (level 3)
Training provider: POULTEC TRAINING LIMITED
Hours:
- Monday: 08.00 - 18.00
- Tuesday: 08.00 - 17.30
- Thursday: 08.00 - 18.00
- Friday: 08.00 - 17.30
Duration: 35 hours a week, 1 year 6 months
Start date: Sunday 1 November 2026
Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- Greet patients and helping them feel at ease
- Offer them reassurance and support
- Monitor patient comfort throughout the appointment
- Check day lists and laboratory work
- Prepare the surgery, instruments, equipment and materials
- Provide chairside support, suction, passing instruments, mixing materials
- Decontaminate and sterilise equipment and instruments, maintaining high standards of cross infection
- Handling waste safely in accordance with current guidelines
- Assist with paperwork and charting
- Keep accurate records
- Manage stock
- Setting up equipment and mixing materials
- Supporting the clinician chairside - passing instruments as required
- Acting as a reassuring presence for patients
- Managing decontamination, sterilisation and hygiene tasks in line with regulations
- Maintaining accurate patient records and assisting with dental charting
- Assisting the reception team when required
- Work as part of a team
