Apprentice Dental Nurse
As an Apprentice Dental Nurse, you’ll support clinicians to deliver a range of high-quality dental treatments and help the smooth running of your surgery and the practice. You will enjoy being part of a team that’s passionate about caring for patients and helping the nation smile. Alongside your role you will achieve a Level 3 in Dental Nursing.

£12,480 to £19,827.60, depending on your age

Monday, Tuesday and Thursday in practice, with additional study time at the workplace for your Apprenticeship requirements. 30 hours a week

What you'll do at work
- Joining the UK’s leading dental network, delivering high-quality dentistry that makes people smile.
- Reception including answering the phone and greeting patients.
- Dealing with patient queries.
- Taking payments.
- Booking appointments and follow ups.
- Sterilising and preparing equipment for dentists.
- Recording and dealing with patient records.
- Supporting patients' wellbeing and dental experience.
- Cleaning dental areas including chairs.
- Managing stock of equipment and supplies.
- Any other duties to support the dentists and senior team to provide effective patient care.

- Course contents include identifying relevant and appropriate dental, oral, craniofacial, and general anatomy; evaluating the health risks of drug use and misuse on oral and general health; understanding the scientific principles of materials and Biomaterials; identifying signs of abuse, neglect, or emotional trauma; assessing patients’ levels of anxiety, experience, and expectations in respect of dental care and oral health; contributing to special investigations and diagnostic procedures; undertaking orthodontic assessment; obtaining valid consent from patients; recording patient histories and dental charting; preparing records, images, equipment, and materials for clinical assessment; managing dental radiographs and images; managing patient anxiety; supporting and reassuring patients; identifying changes in patients’ reported oral health status and taking appropriate action; making arrangements for follow-up care; providing chairside support to the operator; preparing, mixing, and handling dental materials; managing clinical environment risks and infection control procedures; preparing and maintaining the clinical environment; managing medical emergencies; providing preventive advice and instruction to patients and carers; supporting the management of acute oral conditions; adopting an evidence-based approach to clinical practice; communicating effectively with patients, the public, and colleagues; maintaining patient records; demonstrating team working and professional responsibility; leading and managing actions of colleagues; supporting patients in accessing oral healthcare; treating patients and colleagues with dignity and respect; supporting informed patient decisions; demonstrating cultural competence; acting as an advocate for patients’ needs; speaking up to protect others from harm; evaluating the effectiveness of prevention; addressing discriminatory language and behaviour; evaluating health promotion and environmental impacts; contributing to healthcare communities; evaluating evidence bases; utilizing feedback for professional development; demonstrating personal development and reflective practice; evaluating new techniques and technologies; assessing personal capabilities and limitations; recognizing and managing personal assumptions, biases, and prejudices; recognizing the impact of contextual factors on healthcare; demonstrating professional responsibility; developing and maintaining professional knowledge and competence; engaging with systems and strategies for wellbeing; managing time and resources; underpinning patient care with a preventive approach.
