Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

In this role, your key responsibilities will include:

• Working within a defined scope of practice under supervision, you will undertake general radiography and fluoroscopy examinations following departmental protocols to ensure high departmental standards are met. There is a requirement to work across the 24/7 period.
• As an apprentice, you will assist the radiographers and radiologists as they undertake imaging procedures and provide care for the patients whilst in the department.
• You will also be required to undertake admin tasks such as booking patients in using the Radiology Information System as well as using the electronic request and portering system, all of which require good IT skills.
• Under the supervision of our Registered Radiographers and supported by the University apprenticeship provider, you will learn to undertake imaging procedures yourself. Academic block release, online tutorials and practical supervision will enable you to gain the skills required to successfully complete your degree and register as a radiographer.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for a dynamic, proactive individual with previous experience in planar and fluoroscopic imaging. An ability to work in a team as well as independently together with excellent patient care is a must.

You must also be able to successfully meet the entry requirements required by the University apprenticeship provider.

Apprenticeship eligibility

To Be Eligible For This Apprenticeship, Applicants Must

• Be aged 16 or over by the apprenticeship start date.
• Have the right to work in England and sufficient time remaining on any visa or immigration permission to complete the apprenticeship.
• Normally have been ordinarily resident in the UK and Islands for the three years immediately before the apprenticeship begins. Some exceptions apply, which will be assessed by the training provider.
• Not be in full-time education or undertaking another apprenticeship at the point this apprenticeship begins.
• Spend at least 50% of their working hours in England during the apprenticeship.
• Be able to complete the full apprenticeship programme, including its assessment.
• Not already hold qualifications, training or experience that substantially cover the knowledge, skills and behaviours taught by this apprenticeship. Previous qualifications in other subjects will not necessarily prevent applicants from being eligible.

Eligibility will be formally assessed by the appointed training provider before enrolment.

Essential criteria

• A-Levels or BTEC National or equivalent (in a relevant subject) 120 points, including one of the sciences or social science
• GCSE Maths and English (at least grade C or 5) or functional skills level 3 or equivalent qualification

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria

• Experience in a relevant care environment or customer facing role

Desirable criteria

• Practical experience of working with vulnerable people
• Effective verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills including responding appropriately to distressed patients and staff and distressing circumstances e.g. suspected physical abuse, major trauma, cancer and death
• Previous hospital experience
• Knowledge of radiography
• Experience of working in a department using IR(ME)R 2017 and IRR 2017 regulations in clinical practice

Skills and Aptitudes

Essential criteria

• Team player who can also work independently
• Capable of completing the Diagnostic Radiographer Apprenticeship within 3 years
• Computer literate
