I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Training schedule
As an apprentice, you will be included on a Level 3 Early Years Educator. Apprenticeship standards are aimed at developing skills within the apprentice’s chosen career route. Each standard has set knowledge, skills and behaviours required to be successful within the job role. This will include the completion of functional skills in maths and English.
Once you have completed a minimum of 15-months of training and the employer and Inspiro Development Coach confirm you have met all the requirements of the standard, you will be put through to the End Point Assessment. The End Point Assessment is independent from the training and includes a variety of assessment methods which test the skills and knowledge of apprentices to ensure you are fully competent in your role.
As an apprentice, you will be supported throughout the apprenticeship by a structured programme of teaching, e-learning, face-to-face training and workplace mentoring; this will encourage and help you to meet the requirements of the new standards and will prepare you for the End Point Assessment. Training will include paediatric first aid qualification.
